An alternative pathway to social enterprise
The initiative was launched in April 2020 with funding from the Province of British Columbia BC Rural Dividend Fund, Island Coastal Economic Trust and the Vancouver Foundation and aims to support non-profit and charitable organizations in pursuing business acquisition as a social enterprising strategy.
In July 2021, the partnership launched a comprehensive toolkit called “Pathway to a Successful Business Purchase” (PSBP Toolkit). Adapted from Venture Connect’s buyer’s workbook of the same name, the PSBP Toolkit is the first of its kind in Canada to address the unique challenges and needs of the non-profit sector.
This October, seCatalyst will facilitate a Business Legacies Incubator; an 8-module intensive that will incorporate virtual sessions, homework and coaching from industry experts. The Incubator will focus on acquisition readiness and organizations are not required to identify a specific business for purchase prior to participating.
Applications for the Business Legacies Incubator are now open. The program is open to non-profit and charitable organizations currently operating on Vancouver Island (excluding Greater Victoria) and select Gulf Islands. Click the link below to apply online.
The resources and advisory services provided in this program are valued at over $2,500. Successful applicants will be asked to contribute a nominal program fee of $250. If the program fee is a barrier to participation, bursaries may be available.
